Independent gym, Chester — high-output multi-split with humidity control

Two zones of cooling for a 240m² gym. Three high-wall units plus a cassette over the free-weights area, humidity logged for insurer.

Independent gym, Chester — high-output multi-split with humidity control

Forge Strength is an independent gym off Bumpers Lane in Chester. 240m² over two zones — a cardio area at the front and a free-weights area at the back — with a shared changing block in the middle. The owner, Aaron, wanted cooling in both zones and humidity control on the free-weights side specifically, where the insurer required RH below 65%.

The zoning conversation was where most of the design work went. Cardio area is open and well-ventilated through the front roller door; free-weights is enclosed with high ceilings and significant body-heat load on a busy evening. We zoned them as separate systems so the cardio side could run gently while the free-weights side worked harder.

Specification: cardio side got two Daikin FTXM50R wall units (5kW each) on a single outdoor; free-weights side got a 4-way cassette plus a single high-wall to handle the spot loads, totalling 12kW with a hot-gas reheat humidity-control mode. Both outdoor units sat on a screened plant deck on the side wall.

Five-day install around Aaron's open hours (we worked nights). Humidity logger fitted on the free-weights side for the insurer's six-month review.

Forge Strength is a 240m² gym and the cooling brief was complicated — humidity logging for the insurer, two zones, hot weather use, busy evenings. Marshall spent more time on the design than I expected before we got to the install. Five days of nights to keep the gym open. The members noticed straight away. Insurance was happy at the six-month review. Faultless.
