Fuse box upgrades

Replace an old fuse-wire or split-load consumer unit with a modern, fully-RCBO board that meets the latest regs.

From £495
Fuse box upgrades

If your consumer unit (the 'fuse box') is older than fifteen years, it probably doesn't meet the current 18th Edition regs. The clue is usually wired fuses, a metal back without RCD protection, or one big trip switch that takes the whole house down when something goes wrong.

We replace the lot with a modern board where every circuit has its own RCBO. That means a fault on the kitchen circuit only trips the kitchen circuit — the rest of the house keeps running. Better protection, much less hassle.

Typical fit takes a working day. We'll test every circuit before and after and issue an Electrical Installation Certificate, plus notify Building Control under Part P.

What's included

  • Hager or Wylex 18th-Edition consumer unit
  • Individual RCBO protection on every circuit
  • Surge Protection Device fitted as standard
  • Full circuit testing before and after
  • Electrical Installation Certificate issued
  • Part P notification to Building Control

Frequently asked

How long is the power off for?

Usually three to four hours during the swap. We aim to finish before tea time and we'll work around your day if there are home workers in.

Will my old wiring work with the new board?

Almost always — modern RCBOs are more sensitive than old fuses, but they don't change what your existing cable can carry. If anything fails the test, we'll tell you what's needed and quote it.
