Privacy policy.
How we handle your information. Plain English, nothing hidden.
1. Who we are
Simons Electricals (“we”, “us”, “our”) is an electrical contracting business operating from 23 Curzon Park North, Chester, CH4 8AR. We are NICEIC-approved (Reg. 612345) and Part P-registered (Reg. 678901). We are the data controller for any personal information you give us through this website, by phone, by email, or in person.
If you have questions about how we use your data you can email [email protected] or write to us at the address above.
2. What information we collect
We only collect the information we actually need to do our job and run the business. That typically means:
- Contact details — your name, address, postcode, phone number, and email when you request a quote, book a service, or get in touch.
- Job details — what the work involves, photos of the site (with your permission), notes from the electrician, and the price quoted and charged.
- Payment information — handled directly by our card processor or your bank for BACS payments. We do not store full card numbers.
- Electrical certificates — where we issue an EIC, EICR, or Minor Works certificate, we keep a copy for our records as required by Part P and the Building Regulations. Notifiable work is reported to Building Control via NICEIC.
- Website data — anonymised analytics if you've consented to analytics cookies (see section 6).
3. Why we use it
We use your information to:
- Reply to enquiries and provide quotes
- Schedule, carry out, and bill for electrical work
- Issue Electrical Installation Certificates, EICRs, and Minor Works certificates
- Notify Building Control of notifiable work via the NICEIC scheme
- Send periodic-inspection reminders if you've asked us to
- Comply with our legal obligations (HMRC, Part P, insurance)
- Defend or pursue claims if anything ever goes wrong
The legal bases we rely on under UK GDPR are contract (delivering work you've asked us to do), legitimate interests (running the business, keeping records, replying to enquiries), legal obligation (tax, Part P, electrical safety), and consent (analytics cookies, marketing — only where you've explicitly opted in).
4. Who we share it with
We don't sell or rent your information to anyone. We share it only when we have to:
- Our accountant and bookkeeping software (for invoicing and tax)
- Our card processor when you pay by card
- NICEIC, where required for Part P notification of notifiable work
- Local Authority Building Control, where notifiable work is reported via NICEIC
- Manufacturers (Pod Point, Hypervolt, etc.) when registering EV-charger warranties — only with your knowledge
- Our insurers, only if there's a claim
5. How long we keep it
Quotes and enquiries that don't result in a job: 12 months. Customer records and invoices: 7 years (HMRC requirement). Electrical certificates and EICRs: kept for the lifetime of the installation as a matter of good practice — often longer for landlords. Job photos: 3 years unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
6. Cookies
This website uses three categories of cookies:
- Strictly necessary — required for the site to work. These include the cookie consent itself and basic session security. Always on.
- Analytics — Google Analytics 4. Only set if you click "Accept all" or enable it in cookie settings. Anonymised, aggregated, never sold.
- Marketing — currently not used on this site. The toggle is there for the future.
You can change your preferences any time using the "Cookie settings" link in the footer.
7. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- Ask what data we hold about you (subject access request)
- Have inaccurate data corrected
- Have your data deleted, where it's not needed to meet a legal obligation
- Object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Withdraw consent at any time, where we're relying on it
- Complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) if you think we've got it wrong
To exercise any of these, drop us an email and we'll respond within 30 days — usually a lot sooner.
8. Security
We keep customer data in encrypted business systems with two-factor authentication. Paper records are stored in a locked office. Only Mike and our bookkeeper have access; Tom sees only the job sheets for what he's working on.
9. Changes to this policy
If we change anything material, we'll update this page and the "last updated" date at the top. For active customers we'll also drop you an email if a change affects you.
